Agent Marketing Checklist By Dan Baldwin, 8/27/9
The following is a marketing checklist for telecom agents and channel partners. These are all different things I do myself for my own business. Most are free or affordable. Got something to add? Please send it to Dan@TelecomAssociation.com or call 951-251-5155.
Create a LinkedIn listing for yourself Create a Google.com/Profiles listing Create sub web sites (search term specific) Create a Google.com/Local listing
Create a LinkedIn listing for yourself. This is really the most important thing to do to establish credibility as a LinkedIn listing (properly completed) does two things: 1. It shows your employment history 2. It shows "who you know" & who's "vouching" for you Business owners and decision makers are understandably only interested in doing business with people who know what they are doing (and have a history of doing it well). By publishing a LinkedIn page you are "going on the record" and asking people who know you to "back you up" by connecting with you or providing recommendations. A LinkedIn listing with few details, connections & recommendations says, "I'm new at this" and creates a sense of risk for prospective customers. A listing full of details, connections and recommendations exudes confidence and tells prospective customers, "This is a safe choice".
A "main" website needs to be nothing more than the electronic version of your business card showing your business name, phone number, your name, title, mailing address, email address & URL (www web address). Too many new agents (especially those coming from a W-2 job) don't put up a website because it seems too complicated - this is a mistake. Without at least a simple one-page site you're not really in business. Many web marketing service providers like 1&1 or GoDaddy make getting a web address (URL), matching email and a simple site very easy. Usually the whole process takes little more than 30 minutes to complete. If you're not ready to do even an inexpensive paid web site like 1&1 or GoDaddy, you should at least put up a free website at www.Blogger.com.
